Attorney Lorinne J. Cunningham
Lorinne J. Cunningham received her bachelor's degree in History and Criminalistics (Forensic Science) from the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she graduated with highest distinction, and was given membership in various honor societies, including Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Golden Key, and Honors College. She was an editor for the University's literary journal, the Red Shoes Review. As a senior, She received the University's highest award for scholarship in History, the Goodman Award.
Lori worked her way through law school, spending nine years as a microscopist and expert witness in a forensic (crime) laboratory. She attended IIT-Chicago-Kent College of Law on various scholarships, made the Dean's list each semester, and graduated with Honors. As a student, she took special interest in issues surrounding the Bankruptcy Code. In a seminar on Advanced Bankruptcy, her seminar paper and presentation was on asset-backed securities and the securitization of mortgages. It posited both the bubble and collapse of the shadow banking system and suggested that insurance law principles could be applied to avoid both. In Advanced Criminal law, she made a significant contribution to the historical understanding of the transformation of medieval evidence law from torture-based confession to acceptance of circumstantial proof.
After law school, Lori completed an internship in Washington, D.C. at the Food and Drug Law Institute, and wrote course materials for the Health Law Institute of DePaul University's School of Law and Loyola University's Medical School's Institute for Medical Ethics. She organized and presented seminars on the Role of the Euro in International Trade, and the Medical and Legal Ethics surrounding hospice care.
Lori has worked for some of the country's largest Bankruptcy and Collection firms. Having worked both sides of the issue, she continually applies her knowledge to the benefit of her clients. Of late, she has specialized in Foreclosure Defense. She has recently worked with, and written appellate briefs for, two of Illinois's most savvy and experienced foreclosure defense attorneys. Recently, she gave a presentation before the Lake County Bar Association's Real Estate Committee on "How a Foreclosure Defense Can Lead to a Loan Modification."
